Totally Easy
DSS-8 is plug it in and walk away. Very simple. It also has a unique admin interface that you can access. You can set port forwarding, DMZ, Internal Static ip's, etc. Very Very Nice. The whole D Link line is teriffic. I am a sys admin and residential computer tech and use D Link Exclusively.

Competant Switch
What can be said about a network switch? It works or it doesn't, really. I have no complaints about this switch, it works well. I've had good luck with all D-Link hardware, really. One interesting feature is that it has an indicator to show if a network device is connected at 10Mbps or 100Mbps. I didn't know that one of my older computers had a 10M card in it until I got this switch!

Look elsewhere
I'm on my 2nd (replacement) DSS-8+ and this one has died, just like the other (port 6 stays lit even though nothing is plugged in, and devices can't talk through it when they are plugged in). I think this will be the last D-link product I buy.

We have a small office, originally running a 5 port belkin switch with 3 computers, a DSL modem and an NAS external hard drive hooked to it. We need another CPU in the office so needed more ports. When the 8 port D-Link switch came in, I simply unplugged and replugged the cables from the Belkin to the D-Link and everything reconnected and rebooted when plugged in. All connections fully functional no configuration changes needed. It got a ''4'' rating because it does seem to have a bit more
