Excellent Fanless 5-Port 10/100/1000 Switch
I had been using the older 10/100 D-Link switch (DSS-5+) for over two years and never had any kind of problem. About three weeks ago, I wrote a review of that switch here and mentioned that I'd like to try the Gigabit version (this one). After thinking about it for a bit, and realizing how inexpensive these things are, I went out and bought it. Exactly as I said for the DSS-5+, this is a great little switch that's definitely worth the money. All the ports are in the back, the casing has a br...

Flawed
I have a mixed home network with 3 100bt connections and two gigabit PCs. If I mix speeds, the D-Link resets itself every 10 seconds, making it unusable. I replaced it with a Netgear GS605 and have had no problems with that.

Total garbage !!!
For years I used, trusted and loved D-Link products. These days I find D-Link is basically shoving the cheapest junk hardware components into shiny new plastic covers, relabelling them and releasing it as a 'new' line of product.I really cannot believe I am going to say this but either read and re-read D-Link product reviews or steer clear of D-Link networking products all together. They used to be great. Over the past 3-4 years I have personally witnessed and experience a serious de...

Will not buy DLink again
Everything started off rosey with this switch until a port died 2 months after I got it. I RMA'd it and the replacement switch took so long to get here I bought a Negear GS-605 to hold me over.Once the replacement finally got there, I attempted to hook it up to the other switched and it refused (tried both crossover and normal cables, ports, etc). Sure it would sync the link at 1Gb/s but it refused to actaully pass tcp/ip packets. I double checked the manual (which confli...

What's great about it: easy to set up, good price, good quality
What's not so great: plastic
"i just bought this switch today and so far it is woeking excellent. i wanted so i could have LAN parties with my friends over system link for xbox 360 and since we would not need internet there would be 6 ports for use. i use it for sharing a connection with my xbox 360 and my ps3."

"Bought this switch for added network access during a major intallation at our plant. It has worked great right out of the box even after being dropped off a table and kicked around on the plant floor. Only minor cosmetic damage."

Worked very well for me
I'm not really a network guru, but I just plugged it into my local network and it worked great. Now I have all my mac's running at gigabit speeds to do distributed builds.

Runs too hot
I bought this switch when it came out a few years ago. It was one of the first gigabit switches available for a reasonable price (below $100). It worked fine with many of my home systems. But it just ran too damn hot. The plastic case really didn't help. It ran so hot that it became the favorite sleeping spot for one of my cats. I have tons of electronics in the house, but this is the one she chose. Of course, that caused the Dlink switch to run even hotter. It finally died a few months ago. I r...

Simplicity defined
Building out a home network is not as tough as it once was, and products like this D-Link switch help make it that way. This is the 3rd d-Link switch and the 2nd DGS-1005D I've added to my home network and nothing beats its plug-n-play simplicity. If you're looking to get gigabit to the desktop this is a must-have.

I like this Gigabit switch quite a lot. Most of the home network is made of D-Link products. I wanted to upgrade from the old 10/100 network to Gigabit. This switch is the same physical size as the router I'm using (also a D-Link), and such I it's actually locked together with the router using small rubber feet that D-Link provided in their package. The switch has been flawless so far, and delivers massive bandwidth which is well-needed for large-scale backups. I would recommend this switch as t...
